It has been years since the offense against you actually happened. Yet today, whenever you think about the " incident," you still have that toxic bitterness of unforgiveness souring not just your heart, but your life! And God knows that's not the way to live your life. As someone once said, " Not forgiving someone is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die." Fortunately, the apostle Paul provides wisdom around forgiveness. One of the best ways to begin the process ( and forgiving someone can definitely be a process) is to try to understand the person who offended you, to put yourself in their shoes. Consider their life history and present circumstances. Why might this person have acted as they did? Yet even after you've considered the who, what, when, where and why of an offense, forgiveness really just comes down to having the grace, love, mercy, and compassion to simply let go of the bitterness and thoughts of revenge. That's where prayer comes in, and that's how prayer saves you.
